Tiazac
Tiazac® is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood
pressure) and angina (chest pain). Tiazac belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium
channel blockers (CCBs).
As a calcium channel blocker, Tiazac lowers blood pressure by blocking calcium influx
into the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessels.
In the U.S., approximately 65 million people have hypertension.* Unfortunately,
NHANES 2000 revealed that only 59% receive treatment, and only 31% of those treated
have their condition under adequate control.** Hypertension is a lifelong condition
and can remain asymptomatic for many years. It is very important to reach blood
pressure goal and maintain that goal throughout one's life.
Safety Information
Decreases in blood pressure associated with diltiazem hydrochloride therapy may
occasionally result in symptomatic hypotension. The drug should be used with caution
in patients with impaired kidney or liver function.
